Getting in on a delayed flight, we arrive in Nanning with only an hour and 20 minutes to spare before the next flight was scheduled to take off. In that time, we had to grab our luggage from the Sichuan Airline baggage claim, then re-check our luggage with China Southern. The line for BKK (Bangkok) was enormous, and we didn't get to the front until 35minutes before departure. Rushing off to the security check, I hear a voice yelling out at me: "Sir! Excuse me sir! You must go back. Problem with your bag!" Oh great! The lady led me to the back room of baggage security, and sure enough, there was my back by itself on the table in front of me. The man told me there was a lighter in my bag, and I must take it out. Having just put the bag through the wash 2 days prior, and packing it piece by piece with no help, I knew this was not the case and promised him there was none. I was instructed then to empty out half the contents of my carefully packed bag, with minutes counting down. Once half my bag was empty, they ran the half empty bag through security, then the other half of the contents which had been placed in a grey tote bin. Then they ran them through again, with the officer poking and prodding, and feeling all the seams of the bag. In the end, he motioned for me to pack my bag. I threw the contents back in, and hurriedly crushed them into shape with the tensioning straps, and hurried off to the security check with only 20 minutes to spare! Lucky for me, the plane was held, and my boarding pass was scanned 5 minutes after scheduled takeoff!
